Step 1
Choose the apps you want Pennie to monitor
- Settings > Track Finance Notifications
- Open Choose notification apps
In Settings, open Track Finance Notifications, then Choose notification apps.
Step 2
SMS and Gmail start enabled
- Review the defaults
- Your explicit opt-outs are preserved
Known SMS apps and Gmail are enabled by default. Review whether you want each source monitored.
Your explicit opt-outs are preserved when Pennie initializes its defaults again; they are not silently turned back on.
Step 3
Search narrows the visible app list
- Type part of an app name
- Read the filtered result count
Type part of an app name to narrow the list. This search leaves only Demo Bank from the four-app example.
Search changes the visible list, not your monitoring preferences. Package names can also match.
Step 4
Turn on only the source you want
- Use the app's switch
- The choice saves automatically
Use an app's switch to enable monitoring. There is no separate Save button.
Step 5
Enabled apps appear first
- Enabled apps come before disabled apps
- Names determine order within each group
Enabled apps appear first, followed by disabled apps. Names determine the order within each group.
Demo Bank moves above the other enabled examples after its choice is saved.
Step 6
Turn off a source without deleting transactions
- The app returns to the disabled group
- Other sources and saved transactions stay intact
Turning a source off stops that package from passing Pennie's monitoring guard.
It does not delete saved transactions or change another app's choice. This example's ledger stays unchanged.
Step 7
Clear search to restore the full list
- Clear the search field
- Review the list without changing switches
Clear the search field when you want the full list again.
All four examples return in the same enabled-first order. Clearing search does not save or reset any app preference.
Step 8
A saved choice survives reopening
- Return to Choose notification apps
- Check the same saved switch state
When you reopen Choose notification apps, Pennie reads the saved choices again.
Step 9
No Apps Found can mean a filter has no match
- Check the search text first
- Clear the filter before assuming the list is empty
In this example, No Apps Found means the current search has no match. The original list has not been deleted.
Check the search text and clear the filter before assuming there are no notification-capable apps.
Step 10
A failed save restores the previous choice
- Read the visible save error
- Check the restored switch before retrying
If a save fails, Pennie restores the previous switch state and shows a Could not save message.
Here a synthetic failure occurs before writing. Demo Bank stays off, with no successful save or saved rollback.
Step 11
Monitoring is not approval or cloud consent
- Review captured finance details before saving
- OS access and cloud AI remain separate
Enabling an app only chooses a notification source. It does not make every message a financial transaction or save an expense.
Review captured details before saving. Android access and cloud-AI permission remain separate choices.
