Worked examples use sample data, not your account. Reference screenshots show the current app controls in a Windows preview; their example amounts may differ from this lesson. Android system prompts vary by device.

Step 1

Find the automatic backup choices

  1. Open Settings > Data Transfer
  2. Check regular Premium and separate Drive permission

Open Data Transfer from Settings and find Automatic backup frequency. Regular paid backup access and separate Drive permission are needed; a Pennie account is optional.

Step 2

Read the complete four-choice menu

  1. Open the actual frequency dropdown
  2. Choose Off, Daily, Weekly or Monthly

Open the frequency dropdown to see Off, Daily, Weekly and Monthly. All four actual choices are visible.

Off stops automatic backups. Daily, Weekly and Monthly choose a cadence; selecting one is not a successful backup or a guaranteed alarm time.

Step 3

Choose Daily for a one-day cadence

  1. Choose Daily
  2. A saved schedule is not backup completion

Choose Daily if you want a one-day cadence. After a successful backup, another becomes due when at least one day has elapsed and the database has changed.

The actual status says Scheduled. That records your choice, not an encrypted upload or a completed backup.

Step 4

Choose Weekly for a seven-day cadence

  1. Choose Weekly
  2. Eligibility is checked when the backup runner executes

Choose Weekly for a seven-day interval after the last successful backup, with changed data and the required access.

Android checks eligibility when its runner gets an opportunity. Battery, connectivity and system scheduling mean this is not an exact-time promise.

Step 5

Monthly means thirty elapsed days

  1. Choose Monthly
  2. This is not a calendar-month appointment

Monthly means thirty elapsed days after the last successful backup in the current policy.

It does not mean the first or last day of a calendar month. Changed data, connectivity, paid access and Drive authorization still matter.

Step 6

Protect changed data without repeat copies

  1. Read the complete encrypted-snapshot explanation
  2. Connecting Drive does not create a backup

The page explains that scheduled backups save a complete encrypted snapshot when your data has changed. Change detection includes the database and its write-ahead log, not just transaction dates.

A first eligible backup still needs meaningful local data. Connecting Drive or choosing a cadence alone does not create a backup.

Step 7

Keep Wi-Fi-only on to avoid mobile data

  1. Read Back up over Wi-Fi only
  2. Automatic mobile-data use is blocked while it is on

Keep Back up over Wi-Fi only on if you do not want automatic backups to use mobile data.

The actual policy accepts Wi-Fi or Ethernet as unmetered here. With no internet, or a mobile connection while this switch is on, it does not attempt the scheduled upload.

Step 8

Understand the Wi-Fi-only off choice

  1. The actual switch is off in this example
  2. Mobile-data costs are your choice

Turning Wi-Fi-only off allows an otherwise eligible automatic backup to use a mobile connection.

Consider your mobile-data allowance before choosing that. This isolated preview changes the real preference only; it does not use your mobile data or upload anything.

Step 9

Check the choices on a fresh page

  1. A fresh actual page retains Weekly
  2. It also retains Wi-Fi-only off

A genuinely fresh page reads the saved Weekly choice and Wi-Fi-only off in this example.

Your chosen cadence and network preference are separate settings. Reopening them does not prove that an Android background job ran or a backup succeeded.

Step 10

Turn automatic backup off without losing manual

  1. Choose Off and read Automatic backup is off
  2. Back up now remains a separate action

Choose Off to stop automatic backups. The actual status says Automatic backup is off.

Back up now remains a separate manual action. Check actual backup results on your phone; if Drive needs renewed authorization, open Pennie to approve it, not a background consent screen.
