Step 1
Find Back up now in Data Transfer
- Open Settings > Data Transfer
- Regular Premium and separate Drive access are needed
Open Data Transfer from Settings and find Back up now. Regular paid Premium and separate Google Drive permission are needed; a Pennie account is optional.
This lesson uses the actual page with isolated sample data. Drive access and transport are synthetic, not a real Google authorization or upload.
Step 2
Manual backup works with the schedule Off
- Read the selected Off value
- Back up now is a separate manual action
The automatic backup frequency is Off, but Back up now is available.
You do not need to turn on a schedule to request a manual backup. Connecting Drive alone does not create one.
Step 3
Understand Wi-Fi-only before starting
- Read Back up over Wi-Fi only
- Manual use on mobile data asks for confirmation
Read Back up over Wi-Fi only before starting. It prevents automatic mobile-data use.
A manual backup on mobile data asks you to confirm. We will show the actual Cancel option, not spend mobile data.
Step 4
Start Back up now and wait
- Use Back up now on your phone
- The actual button changes to Backing up
Use Back up now when you want a snapshot. The actual button changes to Backing up while the operation is in progress.
The real backup service compresses and encrypts this two-month sample ledger. Its full snapshot is inspected locally; the transport is deliberately fake.
Step 5
Read the actual completion dialog
- Read Backup complete
The actual page displays Backup complete after the controlled transport accepts the genuine encrypted sample.
Step 6
Check the last manual-backup result
- OK returns to the same actual page
- Read Last manual backup before leaving
After OK, the same page shows the last manual-backup date and time, and Back up now is available again.
This is the same-page result, not a fresh-page reopening or independent confirmation from Google Drive. Connection status is different from backup status.
Step 7
Empty data is not a useful new backup
- Read Nothing to back up yet
- Existing cloud backups are not changed
A device with only default data gets Nothing to back up yet before authorization, export or upload.
The actual message says existing cloud backups have not changed and points to restoring an earlier backup. Close it with OK; restore is a separate lesson.
Step 8
Cancel manual mobile-data use safely
- Read Back up with mobile data
- Cancel stops before export and upload
With Wi-Fi-only enabled on a mobile connection, the actual page asks whether to use mobile data.
Choose Cancel if you do not want to proceed. This example cancels before Drive authorization, encrypted export or upload.
Step 9
Drive cancellation is not backup success
- Read Canceled
- No success is recorded
Canceling the separate Drive action displays Canceled. The actual message says no success was recorded.
Close it with OK and try again only when you want to authorize Drive. This canceled example creates no encrypted backup.
Step 10
Read failures before trying again
- Read Backup not completed
- Off does not promise automatic retries
A controlled upload rejection shows Backup not completed and leaves an explicit failure status, not a successful timestamp.
Automatic-retry wording is not a promise while the schedule is Off. Check access, close the message and retry Back up now deliberately.
Step 11
Keep manual backup and scheduling separate
- Check the result after a manual request
- Learn automatic scheduling in the next lesson
Use Back up now for a deliberate manual snapshot, then check the result. Regular paid access, Drive permission and backup completion are different checks.
Automatic scheduling is optional and belongs to the next lesson. Restore and local encrypted files are separate actions too.
