Step 1
Start here
- End of onboarding > widget setup; later use your phone's widget gallery
Put Spent today and Balance this month on your Home Screen. Both values describe saved Pennie records, not your bank balance or confirmed real-world spending.
Step 2
How to use it
- At widget setup, inspect the preview before choosing Add widget. Both amounts are visible on your Home Screen, so consider who can see your phone.
- Spent today totals eligible saved expenses for the current local day. It displays zero when no eligible expense is recorded; zero is not proof that you spent nothing.
- Balance this month matches Dashboard's recorded monthly budget minus expenses. It is not remaining category limits or a live bank balance. Negative balances retain the minus sign and deficit colour.
- On Android, choose Add widget and confirm the request in your launcher. A request is not proof of installation. If no prompt is supported, long-press the Home Screen, open Widgets, find Pennie and drag Spent today into place.
- On iPhone, long-press the Home Screen, choose Edit > Add Widget, search Pennie and select a small or medium widget. Tap Add Widget. iOS does not let Pennie pin it automatically.
- Return to Pennie and choose Continue to Pennie. You may continue without installing a widget and add it later from your phone's widget gallery.
- Saved entries and day or month changes affect the displayed snapshot. Widget refresh is controlled partly by the operating system and can be delayed; open Pennie to check the latest recorded totals.
Step 3
Important details
Transfers, loan repayments and other non-expense movements must not be presented as today's expenses. The widget is a view of eligible recorded expenses, not a payment monitor.
The iOS implementation supports small and medium Home Screen widgets. This guide makes no Lock Screen widget claim.
The screenshots show the genuine widget setup page, including zero and negative fixtures, on Windows. The add-request status uses a simulated accepted launcher request. No real launcher confirmation, installed Android widget or native iPhone widget is pictured.
On iOS, actual availability also depends on the signed app including its WidgetKit extension and App Group entitlements. Windows previews do not verify device signing or installation.
