Step 1
Start with an appropriate expense
- Choose Expense and its category
- Spending tags are conditional
- They do not change the amount
Start with an ordinary Expense and choose the appropriate category.
Spending controls appear only when relevant to the selected flow. The tag does not change how much you paid.
Step 2
Mark a necessary purchase Essential
- Review Spending Type
- Essential is selected for groceries
- Use your own judgment
For these necessary groceries, select Essential under Spending Type.
Use your own judgment; the tag is your classification of this saved purchase, not a statement that every grocery transaction must be essential.
Step 3
Mark discretionary spending separately
- Non-essential suits this entertainment sample
- Only one spending mode is selected
- Keep the real purchase details
For discretionary spending, choose Non-essential instead.
The entertainment sample keeps the same amount but saves the Non-essential flag. Check that the highlighted choice matches what you intend.
Step 4
Review and save once
- Check the final summary
- Use Save, or Cancel to leave it unsaved
- Complete an offered access unlock
Read the You're adding summary before recording this expense. Check the amount, category and date.
Tap Save once. If the manual-saving access offer appears, use a completed reward or regular Premium access; AI Premium and cloud consent are separate.
Cancel leaves the form unsaved. Pennie records transactions; it does not send money through your bank.
Step 5
Check the saved transaction
- Open Transactions
- Check the recorded amount and details
- Do not enter the same movement twice
Check the saved entertainment transaction after recording it.
The actual persistence test verifies that its Essential flag is false; the grocery example's flag is true.
Changing a flag in an unsaved form does not alter an existing transaction.
