Worked examples use sample data, not your account. Reference screenshots show the current app controls in a Windows preview; their example amounts may differ from this lesson. Android system prompts vary by device.
Step 1
Open the existing category
Open the category editor
Check name, icon and purpose
Keep the same category when editing
Open the existing Pet care editor rather than creating a replacement.
Its saved transaction stays attached to the same category identity.
Step 2
Review the saved changes
Open the category editor
Check name, icon and purpose
Keep the same category when editing
Our verified edit changes Pet care to Pet health and updates its icon.
The category identifier and its one saved transaction remain unchanged.
Step 3
Cancel unsaved edits
Change a draft name
Tap Cancel
Reopen the saved category
Cancel discards the draft name without changing Pet health in storage.
You can reopen the original category to continue later.
Step 4
Avoid duplicate names
Use a unique valid name
Read the actual duplicate dialog
Keep existing categories intact
A duplicate category name is rejected by the actual editor validation.
Use a distinct name; do not create duplicates to work around an existing category.
Step 5
Built-in restrictions
Open the category editor
Check name, icon and purpose
Keep the same category when editing
Built-in category names and icons are fixed; their allowed budget field is separate.
Custom name and icon editing uses the custom-category gate, not AI Premium.
