Step 1

Add your monthly budget

  1. Start on Dashboard
  2. Check the month shown
  3. All figures here are sample data

Let's record a monthly budget in Pennie, one step at a time.

In this example, we have twelve thousand rupees of saved expenses, but no recorded budget yet.

We'll add thirty thousand rupees.

All the figures and dates here are sample data.

Step 2

Tap the Budget shortcut

  1. Find Total Budget
  2. Tap its small +
  3. The Budget type and category are preselected

On Dashboard, check the current month at the top.

Tap the small plus beside Total Budget.

Pennie opens Add transaction with the Budget type and Budget category already selected,

so you don't have to choose them again.

Step 3

Check Budget, not Expense

  1. Budget chip: selected
  2. Category: Budget
  3. Income is the internal name for this flow

Check that Budget is highlighted and the category says Budget.

The review summary calls this flow Income. That's normal:

it adds money to your recorded monthly budget.

Don't switch to Expense or Savings for this simple budget entry.

Step 4

Enter your budget amount

  1. Enter a positive amount
  2. Example: INR 30,000
  3. Check the currency symbol

In Amount, enter the money you want to record for this month's budget.

We'll use thirty thousand rupees.

Check the currency symbol and the digits before continuing.

This records a budget or income transaction; it does not read your bank balance.

Step 5

Choose the correct month

  1. Tap Date
  2. Choose a date in the intended month
  3. Sample: 1 October 2026

Use Date to choose when this budget should count.

Our example is the first of October.

Choose a date in the month you intend to fund.

An entry dated in another month will not appear in the current month's Dashboard total.

Step 6

Add an optional note

  1. Note: Monthly budget - October
  2. Leave Subscription unmarked
  3. Reminders are optional, not required

Scroll to Details and notes.

A note is optional, but Monthly budget, October makes this entry easy to recognize later.

Leave Subscription unmarked for our example.

Recurring reminders are optional; you do not need to unlock one to save a simple budget.

Step 7

Review, then tap Save

  1. Check Budget, amount, Income and date
  2. Tap Save
  3. Save opens Transactions; then select Dashboard

Scroll down to You're adding.

Check Budget, the amount, Income and the date, then tap Save.

Pennie opens Transactions after saving.

To check your updated monthly totals, select the Dashboard tab.

Do not add the same budget again just to refresh the screen.

Step 8

Check your updated totals

  1. Total Budget: INR 30,000
  2. Expenses stay at INR 12,000
  3. Net: INR 18,000 - not a bank balance

Back on Dashboard, Total Budget is now thirty thousand rupees.

Expenses are still twelve thousand.

Net Balance is eighteen thousand: recorded budget or income minus saved expenses.

It is not a live bank balance,

and this is not the same as setting limits for individual expense categories.

Step 9

Avoid counting income twice

  1. A new entry adds; it does not replace
  2. Do not record already-saved income twice
  3. Next: save your first expense

Each new saved budget or income entry adds to that month's total;

it does not replace the existing budget.

If you've already recorded the same income, do not add it again.

For a later month, use a date in that month.

Next, we'll save your first expense.
