Step 1
Start tracking a subscription
- Dashboard > Active subscriptions
- Tap Add transaction
- Tracking, not buying a service
On Dashboard, scroll to Active subscriptions and tap Add transaction.
Pennie opens the transaction editor under Transactions with Subscription already marked.
This starts local tracking through a saved transaction.
It does not subscribe you to a merchant, authorize an automatic debit, or connect a bank account.
Every value here is synthetic.
Step 2
Record a real expense, not a future charge
- Expense for this paid music-plan example
- Do not record an unpaid bill as a payment
- No automatic reminder is enabled
Use Expense for this example because we are recording a music-plan charge that has already been paid.
Subscription is a flag on the transaction, not a separate bank operation.
Do not save an unpaid future charge as if it were paid.
Marking Subscription does not enable recurring reminder alerts.
Step 3
Choose the spending category
- Choose Entertainment for the sample
- Check the category's spending message
- Add Music plan as a sub-category in Details and notes
Choose the category that fits the spending.
We select Entertainment from our sample categories.
The information card explains that this adds to Entertainment spending for the month.
The shortcut marks Subscription for you, but you still need to check the category.
Later, we use Music plan as the sub-category to identify the tracked expense.
Step 4
Enter the charge and its actual date
- Amount: INR 299
- Date: 1 October 2026
- This date belongs to the saved expense
Enter the amount of the charge and check the currency.
Our sample is two hundred and ninety-nine rupees.
Set Date to the actual transaction date: the first of October, twenty twenty-six in this example.
This is not a renewal-date picker.
The saved expense counts toward its dated month's totals.
Step 5
Check the Subscription flag
- Sub-category: Music plan
- Note: Music plan - October
- Subscription remains checked; no reminder required
In Details and notes, add a useful sub-category and optional note.
We use Music plan and Music plan, October.
Check that Mark this transaction as a subscription is selected.
Our sample is non-essential spending.
Recurring reminders have their own access and schedule; you do not need to unlock one to track this subscription.
Step 6
Review and save the flagged expense
- Check Entertainment, INR 299, Expense and date
- Tap Save; complete any offered manual-save unlock
- Then select Dashboard
At You're adding, review Entertainment, the amount, Expense and the date, then tap Save.
Manual transaction saving has a separate feature gate.
If an unlock offer appears, only a completed rewarded ad grants that access; cancelling leaves this save unfinished.
After saving, Pennie opens Transactions.
Select Dashboard to check the tracked subscription.
Step 7
Check the locally tracked subscription
- Music plan appears under Active subscriptions
- The card shows an Expense and recorded activity
- No merchant cancellation or automatic debit
Music plan now appears under Active subscriptions with its amount and recorded activity.
The Expense chip does not promise a monthly renewal schedule.
The section's total summarizes active tracked profiles, not every charge made this month.
Pennie has recorded your transaction and local tracking; it has not bought, cancelled or automatically paid for the service.
