Page-reference preview

Worked examples use sample data, not your account. Reference screenshots show the current app controls in a Windows preview; their example amounts may differ from this lesson. Android system prompts vary by device.

Step 1

Profile: account access, not ledger sync

  1. Open Profile from Settings
  2. Read the signed-out state

Open Profile from Settings to see your account state.

This signed-out screen offers Google sign-in. You can still keep tracking transactions locally.

Step 2

Your ledger remains on this device

  1. Sign-in is not automatic synchronization
  2. Backups require a separate action

Although this page says synchronise, signing in alone does not upload or merge your ledger.

Your saved transactions stay on this device. Backup and restore are separate operations.

Step 3

Use the real Google sign-in on Android

  1. Tap Sign in with Google
  2. Complete Google's account choice on your phone

On your Android phone, use Sign in with Google and complete Google's account choice.

These tutorial screens use a synthetic account. They do not demonstrate a successful live sign-in.

Step 4

An active account shows your identity

  1. Check the displayed account
  2. Account access is separate from backup

After a successful sign-in, Profile shows your account identity.

Backup and restore has its own status. Signed in does not mean a backup has already run.

Step 5

Ordinary token renewal is quiet

  1. Access tokens are short-lived
  2. Normal renewal does not need sign-in again

A short-lived access token can expire while the account is still healthy.

Pennie normally renews it silently. That expiry alone should not show the sign-in-again banner.

Step 6

Your session has ended: sign in again

  1. Renewal must genuinely require sign-in
  2. Use the recovery button on your phone

Your session has ended appears when the renewal credential is missing or rejected.

Use Sign in again on your phone. The banner is not proof that your device transactions were lost.

Step 7

Account access does not grant every feature

  1. Drive and paid backup access are separate
  2. Cloud AI still needs your permission

Google Drive authorization and regular paid backup access remain separate requirements.

Cloud AI also needs its own permission and available usage. Signing in does not enable it by itself.

Step 8

Check identity, status and the next action

  1. Read your account identity
  2. Choose backup or recovery only when needed

Check which account is shown, then read the status for the feature you want.

Keep local tracking, account recovery, backup and cloud AI as separate choices.
