Step 1
Number format changes how values look
- Find Currency format
- Keep the chosen currency separate
In Preferences, find Currency format below Base Currency.
This control changes the presentation of numbers, not which currency you selected.
Step 2
Compare real regional format examples
- Expand the format picker
- Compare the same sample value
Open the picker to compare the actual regional examples.
All these examples format the same negative sample value. Grouping, separators and symbol position can differ.
Step 3
Digit grouping is not a new amount
- Compare grouping and decimal marks
- Choose the layout you read most easily
Indian and international grouping can make the same number look different.
Choose the layout you read most easily. Do not interpret a formatting change as new income or spending.
Step 4
The selected example is retained
- Choose an offered example
- Read the updated picker value
Choose one of the offered examples and read the updated picker value.
Pennie saves the number-culture preference for that currency through the real setting.
Step 5
Formatting does not rewrite your ledger
- Presentation changes only
- Saved numeric values remain unchanged
This setting does not rewrite the monetary values in your ledger.
Keep display formatting separate from editing a transaction amount or changing the base currency.
Step 6
Use a format that is easy to read
- Check the sample before leaving
- Recheck after changing base currency
Check the selected example before leaving Preferences.
If you later change the base currency, review the format again because its available examples and defaults may change.
