Step 1
Choose the first month of your financial year
- Find Financial Year Starts
- Read the current month
Find Financial Year Starts in Preferences.
The month here is the beginning of your financial year, not the date of a transaction.
Step 2
The month picker offers January to December
- Open the start-month picker
- Choose the month you use
Open the picker to see all twelve real month choices.
For this example, we choose July. Use the month appropriate for your own financial year.
Step 3
July is applied by the actual setting
- Select July
- Read the retained month
Selecting July updates the picker and saves the start-month preference.
This changes the financial-year setting. It does not move or rewrite saved transactions.
Step 4
Read the actual year and quarter boundaries
- Open the information button
- Read July to June
Use the small information button to read the actual year boundaries.
With July selected, the financial year runs from July to June. The dialog also lists its four quarters.
Step 5
Reports Annual remains a calendar-year view
- Do not assume every report becomes fiscal
- Read the report's own selected period
This preference does not make every report a financial-year report.
The current Reports Annual selector is a calendar-year view. Always read the period shown by the report itself.
Step 6
A currency change can reset this default
- Review after changing base currency
- Re-select your intended start month
Changing the base currency can reset the start month to that currency's default.
Review Financial Year Starts after a currency change and re-select your intended month if needed.
Step 7
Confirm your month and keep report scope clear
- Check the selected month
- Keep fiscal preference separate from report periods
Confirm the selected month before leaving Preferences.
Keep this financial-year preference separate from the period you choose in an individual report.
