Step 1
Find Budget alerts in Notifications
- Open Expenses & budgets
- Find Budget alerts and its details
Open Notifications and find Budget alerts under Expenses and budgets.
Budget thresholds and categories is the expandable section below. It changes warnings, not your recorded spending.
Step 2
Configure a category budget first
- Set an Expense category budget in Categories
- Read the actual Budget alerts instructions
The actual information button explains the prerequisite: set a budget for an Expense category in Categories first.
Then enable Budget alerts, choose the warning percentage and categories, and record expenses against those budgets. Got it closes these instructions.
Step 3
Enable the group beneath the alert master
- Keep the alert master on
- Turn Budget alerts on when wanted
Budget alerts is a separate optional group. This example starts with it off.
Keep the alert master on, then turn Budget alerts on when you want warnings. Selecting a percentage alone does not enable the group.
Step 4
Choose a real warning percentage
- The picker offers 50, 75, 80, 90 and 95
- A separate crossing is checked at 100%
Expand the actual percentage picker. Choose fifty, seventy-five, eighty, ninety or ninety-five percent.
This is the earlier warning threshold. Pennie also checks the separate one-hundred-percent crossing.
Step 5
An earlier warning at 50%
- This example saves 50%
- Warnings use recorded spending against the category budget
This example selects fifty percent, giving an earlier warning against a configured category budget.
The comparison uses recorded spending and the budget. It is not a live bank balance or a limit imposed on your bank account.
Step 6
A later warning at 95%
- Choose 95% if you prefer a later warning
- The separate 100% crossing remains
Choose ninety-five percent if you prefer a later warning.
The separate one-hundred-percent crossing remains. These choices do not change your category budget or saved expenses.
Step 7
A fresh page remembers the percentage
- Reopening reads the saved 95% value
- Budget alerts remains selected
Reopening an actual fresh page remembers ninety-five percent and the enabled Budget alerts group.
The switch and percentage save automatically. Category selection has its own Save selection button.
Step 8
All budget categories is the default
- Enabled Expense categories are listed
- Positive budgets are required for warnings
All budget categories is the default. The category chooser lists enabled Expense categories.
This Windows lesson runs the actual selection code with sample categories. A category still needs a positive budget before it can produce a budget warning.
Step 9
Choose the categories you want
- This draft keeps only Groceries selected
- Save selection commits the draft
In this sample draft, keep Groceries selected and clear Dining and Transport.
Choose Save selection to commit the scope. Changing these checkboxes is not editing the category or saving an expense.
Step 10
The selected scope is saved
- The actual button reads 1 selected categories
- Only that category is in the chosen scope
After Save selection, the actual Settings button reads one selected categories.
Only that chosen category is in scope for budget warnings. Its stable category identifier, not its display name, is stored.
Step 11
Selecting all restores the default scope
- Select every available Expense category and save
- The button returns to All budget categories
Select all available Expense categories and save when you want the default scope again.
The button returns to All budget categories. Disabled categories, other category types and categories without a positive budget do not produce warnings.
Step 12
Choosing none is not silently saving
- Read the actual Choose a category warning
- Select at least one, or turn Budget alerts off
If you clear every category and try to save, Pennie shows the actual Choose a category warning.
Select at least one category, or turn Budget alerts off. OK closes the warning; the empty draft has not overwritten the earlier scope.
Step 13
Cancel keeps the earlier scope
- Cancel discards the uncommitted checkbox draft
- The previous All budget categories scope remains
Cancel closes a category draft without applying its checkbox changes.
In this example, the earlier All budget categories scope remains. Cancelling selection does not delete categories or recorded expenses.
Step 14
Threshold receipts prevent repeated warnings
- Category, month and threshold have separate keys
- Delivery still depends on Android and scheduling
Accepted warnings use separate category, month and threshold keys to avoid repeating recorded crossings.
