Step 1
Find the delivery controls
- Open Settings > Notifications
- Scroll to Delivery & privacy
Open Notifications from Settings and scroll to Delivery and privacy.
Here you can find Prefer heads-up reminders, Sound and vibration by type, and Send a test notification.
Step 2
Heads-up is a preference
- The default heads-up preference is off
- Android still controls banners and permission
Prefer heads-up reminders is off by default.
This is an app preference, not a guarantee that a banner will appear or that Android permission and Do Not Disturb will be bypassed.
Step 3
Turn on the preference when wanted
- The actual native switch saves the on choice
- System category choices remain authoritative
Turn the preference on when you want heads-up reminders.
The choice saves automatically, but the phone's notification categories and system settings still control actual presentation.
Step 4
Turn it off without changing other choices
- The off choice also saves automatically
- Privacy, quiet hours and alert groups stay separate
Turn the preference off again if you do not want it.
This does not change your lock-screen privacy, quiet hours or chosen alert groups.
Step 5
Check sound and vibration by type
- Use Sound & vibration by type
- Each actual type has a separate Android category
Use Sound and vibration by type to check the notification type that matters to you.
Expense review, bill reminders and the other actual types have separate Android category identities. Changing one type does not prove the settings of all types.
Step 6
Make the final changes on your Android phone
- Android 8+ uses category sound, vibration and banner settings
- Older supported versions use system app settings
On Android eight and later, the chosen type opens its Android sound, vibration and banner settings. Older supported versions use system app settings.
This recording shows the actual desktop explanation, not an Android settings screen. Make and verify the final system choices on your phone.
Step 7
Use the real test action
- Keep Allow Pennie notifications on first
- Tap Send a test notification
Keep Allow Pennie notifications on, then use Send a test notification.
The test has its own Test notifications category. It is not proof that every reminder type has the same sound or banner setting.
Step 8
Read the status honestly
- Actual delivery still requires Android
The actual Windows branch says Test action verified in preview. Actual delivery requires Android.
On your phone, a submitted test is still not proof of visible or audible delivery. Check the actual notification and its system category there.
Step 9
Enable alerts before testing
- Paused alerts produce an explicit warning
- This action does not turn the master on
If Pennie alerts are paused, the actual test action says Enable Pennie notifications before sending a test.
It does not silently turn alerts on. Resume the master when you want alerts, then check your real phone.
Step 10
Reopen and verify your preferred choice
- A fresh actual page reads back the on preference
- Verify real sound, vibration and banners separately
A fresh actual page reads back the saved on preference in this example.
Keep your preferred choice, review the wanted type's Android category and test actual presentation on your phone. Capture access and cloud AI permission remain separate.
