Page-reference preview

Worked examples use sample data, not your account. Reference screenshots show the current app controls in a Windows preview; their example amounts may differ from this lesson. Android system prompts vary by device.

Step 1

Find backup access in Data Transfer

  1. Open Settings > Data Transfer
  2. Read the paid backup requirement

Open Data Transfer from Settings to check your backup access.

The page says cloud and local backup require a paid Premium plan. Your local expense tracking remains separate.

Step 2

Account sign-in is not paid backup access

  1. The example account is signed in without regular Premium
  2. Explore Premium is the separate plan entry

This example is signed in, but it does not have regular paid Premium. The page still offers Explore Premium.

Signing in is not a purchase, a ledger upload or a completed backup.

Step 3

AI Premium is a different plan

  1. The example has AI Premium only
  2. AI access does not unlock backup

This next example has AI Premium only and still sees the paid backup prompt.

AI Premium supports separate cloud-AI features. It does not grant regular Premium backup privileges.

Step 4

Referral ad-free time is not Premium backup

  1. The referral-only example still shows the prompt
  2. Ad-free access and backup privileges are different

Referral ad-free time also does not grant paid backup access. This referral-only example still shows the prompt.

Keep regular Premium, AI Premium and referral ad-free time as three different forms of access.

Step 5

Regular paid backup does not require Pennie sign-in

  1. Regular Premium reveals the Cloud Backup controls
  2. A Pennie account is optional

With regular paid Premium, the backup controls are available even without a Pennie account.

These examples use synthetic entitlement inputs, not a real verified purchase. Read the current plan and entitlement on your own phone.

Step 6

Drive needs separate permission

  1. Sign-in does not connect Drive
  2. Connect grants access to the private app-data folder

Google or Pennie sign-in does not connect Drive. Pennie needs separate permission for its private Drive app-data folder.

Read Not connected before using Connect Google Drive. Account identity and Drive authorization are separate.

Step 7

Read the complete Cloud Backup explanation

  1. Use the Cloud Backup information button
  2. Close the real explanation with OK

The Cloud Backup information dialog explains the separate Drive app-data permission and Pennie's own hidden backups, not ordinary Drive files.

It also says connecting does not create a backup. Read the explanation, then close it with OK.

Step 8

Connect is an authorization action

  1. Use Connect Google Drive on your phone
  2. Wait for the authorization result

Use Connect Google Drive when you want to grant that separate access on your phone.

Step 9

Connected means access, not a saved snapshot

  1. Read the Connected status
  2. Check Drive connection does not create a backup

After the controlled authorization result, the page says Connected and changes the button to Check Drive connection.

That means Drive access is available. It does not mean your history has been encrypted, uploaded or backed up.

Step 10

Cancellation is not a successful backup

  1. Read Connection canceled
  2. Retry only when you want to authorize Drive

If authorization is canceled, the actual status says Connection canceled and that no backup was created.

Use Connect Google Drive to try again only when you want to grant access. Cancellation is not a backup success.

Step 11

Read connection failures before retrying

  1. The actual failure stays visible after closing the alert
  2. Check connectivity, then retry deliberately

A connection failure produces an explicit alert and leaves a Could not connect message on the page.

Check your internet connection, then retry deliberately. This example injects a safe synthetic failure; it does not claim a live Google error.

Step 12

Check access first, then choose the backup action

  1. A fresh actual page rechecks Drive access
  2. Connecting, backup and restore remain different actions

A fresh actual page checks the connection again. Paid backup access and separate Drive permission are the two requirements to understand here.

Connecting, creating a backup and restoring data are different actions. Follow the next lessons before choosing a manual backup, schedule or restore.
